I just finished a book called The Witch of Blackbird Pond. There is a character in the story named Matthew, who is a stern Puritan man and he has learned that a girl named Kit, who is wild and free, will be coming to live with him. He has only seen her portrait and I am writing an imaginary letter about how Matthew feels when he sees Kit’s portrait. -Sigourney
Dear Rachel,
I have received a portrait of Kathrine Tyler. I am devastated. She is coming to live with us! I hate looking at that portrait of her. She looks like a wild tropical bird. She is the opposite of a Puritan. She has too much frippery, and it looks like she is dancing on top of a mountain. She has a beautiful pink flowing dress, instead of just one pair of plain brown clothes. I work hard, and probably Kit does not. I am respectful, I am brave, and I am strong-willed and Kit is not. I do just hope everything turns out right.
Best wishes,
Matthew
